VHS Erkrath Night Walk Focuses on Bats
The Volkshochschule Erkrath offers a night walk around the Stadtweiher in Hochdahl on Friday, August 28, 2026. The excursion is aimed at adults and children who want to learn more about bats.
The event begins at 7:30 PM. Under the guidance of a certified nature guide, participants can observe local bat species in their natural habitat. Information about the lifestyle of these nocturnal mammals will be provided.
Insights into the Animals' Lives
During the tour, among other things, participants will learn how bats orient themselves in complete darkness, where they find shelter during the day, and why they are active at night. A special device will make the ultrasonic signals of the animals audible to the human ear.
According to the Volkshochschule, many young bats are usually also out and about at the end of August. The excursion therefore aims to provide additional insights into the lives of these protected animals.
Registration and Notes
The participation fee for the excursion is 18.00 Euro. Registration is possible until August 25, 2026, online at www.vhs-erkrath.de or by email to [email protected].
Sturdy footwear and a flashlight for path illumination are recommended. Dogs cannot participate in the tour.
